The black dog

I found this photo on a collection of '50 black and white unexplainable photographs'. And it's true. They are completely random and bizarre. Does this one illustrate depression or melancholy? And does that mean that depression is a thing that is 'other' from yourself? People talk about depression as being 'the black dog' (in this case, the black bear) but I wonder if we are right to make it into something that is an entity in itself, something that can be chased away or defeated or deleted. Idle thoughts. Yours?
