Making. Sourdough I.

I was flipping through a Jamie Oliver cookbook while waiting for JJ's harp lesson the other day when I came across a recipe for sourdough bread. It caught my imagination and, knowing that AP LOVES sourdough (I'm not impartial myself) I decided to try some.

Jamie recommended using organic rye flour as the starter, so I put some in a jar with some water and sat back to watch. Here's what's happened so far.

This is the mix on day 1. Nothing happening yet. Although two hours after I put it on the window sill I noticed two tiny air holes in it.

Day two - you can definitely see a bit of bubble action going on, although it is still small. A pretty nice ripe smell though.

This is where we're up to so far and yes, it's working. Day three and there are lots of little beasties breathing in there. Jamie said it would look grey though, and this one doesn't. I'll still mix in some more flour and see what happens in the next few days.
